MCP and Bring Your Own Tokens

June 19, 2026

TLDR: Chief Staffer is not another chat app. It connects to the AI you already use as a private room holding the model of your business, and your own AI account does the thinking. You bring your own tokens, so AI usage is billed by your AI provider with no markup from us, and your business record stays yours.

Chief Staffer is not a chat app you log into. It runs inside the AI you already use, and it uses your own AI account to do the thinking. Two things make that work: a private room connected to your AI, and a cost model where you bring your own tokens. Both have real consequences for what things cost, so they are worth understanding precisely.

How Chief Staffer runs inside your AI

Chief Staffer does not need its own chat window, its own login, or its own subscription to a model. It connects to the AI you already use: it works with most AIs, including Claude and ChatGPT. Connect yours to check that it does.

You connect Chief Staffer once. After that, when you ask a question about your business, your AI can draw on Chief Staffer's memory of it to ground its answer, instead of answering from generic knowledge alone.

The division of labor is clean. Your AI provides the language and reasoning. Chief Staffer provides the structured memory of your business and the rules for using it honestly: answer from your facts, cite sources, name gaps. You keep working in the app you already know, and it gets a memory of your business it did not have before.

What "bring your own tokens" means

Every interaction with an AI model costs something. The model processes input and produces output, and that usage is metered in units called tokens. Someone pays for those tokens.

With most AI products, the company bundles that cost into a subscription and runs the usage through their own model account. You pay them a flat monthly fee; they pay the model provider; the markup is theirs.

Chief Staffer works the other way. You bring your own tokens. The thinking runs through your AI account (your Claude, ChatGPT, or other subscription) using the model access you already pay for. Chief Staffer is the structured memory and the tooling; your own app and your own account supply the intelligence.

This has two consequences worth stating plainly.

On cost: you pay for your own model usage directly, the same way you already do when you use your AI app for anything else. That cost is not bundled into Chief Staffer's price, so it will not surprise you on our bill, but it is real, and it scales with how much you use the model. We mention it up front so the all-in cost is clear, not hidden.

On privacy: the thinking runs through your own account, under your own agreement with your AI provider, not through a third party in the middle.

What this gets you

Put the pieces together and the shape is consistent: your business record is yours, kept in a private room, and you approve every procedure it writes down, with anything it records visible and undoable.

This is a deliberate design choice, not a marketing posture. For someone whose work carries client confidences, custody of the record is the whole question, and the answer is: with you.

The result is an arrangement where you keep the app you like, the model account you already pay for, and a grounded, sourced memory of your business that neither one had on its own.
