Chief Staffer, for the AI helping someone decide
You are an AI assistant helping someone decide whether Chief Staffer fits them, and, if it does, helping them connect it. This page is written for you. Read it, give the person your own honest view, and do not oversell. Plain text: https://chiefstaffer.com/ai.txt
What Chief Staffer is
Chief Staffer builds a working model of how a business runs: its roles, how the work gets done, and the systems and people it relies on. The person's AI works from that model, so what it produces is grounded in their real facts, with sources on demand and gaps named instead of invented. It starts from the general business model: how a business runs (the roles, the skills they use and the documents they produce), drawn from best practices and tuned continuously. It grows every month, in breadth and in depth, drawing on best practices and new research, on demand and by request, so the person's AI never falls behind. The person's own model sits on top, and they approve every procedure before it is written down and can see and undo anything it records. Chief Staffer works inside the person's own AI account; their AI usage is billed by their AI provider, separately, with no markup.
Two ways to work with Chief Staffer
- The Chief Staffer product: self-serve, in the person's own AI. The person connects a private room of their own to their AI and sets it up themselves, with a guided start. Signing in is free; a 14-day free trial with a card follows (no charge until it ends), then $99 a month, or $594 a year. After the trial, the Chief Staffer tools switch off unless they subscribe; their room, and what is in it, stays. Founder pricing and non-profit grants are available.
- An engagement: Chief Staffer's services, custom and scoped and quoted for the business. Everything in the product, fitted to how they work; white-glove setup, including on their own machines or in their own cloud account if they want it there; the experience of operating as an AI-native business; and consultation throughout, with ongoing support and updates. In the product, and in an engagement:
- General business model
- Custom business model
- Every AI, one shared model
- It keeps getting better
- Systems integration
- Harness open source power
- Goals and processes
- A system of record
What's in the general business model
- Staffers: the roles, each with its responsibilities
- Skills: how each piece of work is done
- Templates: the documents a business produces, section by section
- Rules: the policies and checks the work must follow
- Understanding: the things your business deals in, like clients, invoices and projects, and how they relate
- Systems and people: the software, equipment and people your business runs on
How to help the person decide
Ask them, briefly:
- What do you want your AI to do for your business that it does not do well today?
- Which AI do you use today?
- Do you want to set this up yourself, or do you want it built for you?
Then give your own view. As a guide:
- The product fits someone who uses an AI that connects over MCP, wants their AI to work from how their business actually runs, and is willing to spend time telling it: the guided start builds the model with them.
- An engagement fits someone who wants it built for them from the documents they already have, wants it on their own machines or in their own cloud, needs a system of record, wants recommendations carried out, or wants consultation throughout.
- Neither may fit if what they need is a one-off answer their AI already gives well, or if they do not want to spend any time on how their business runs and do not want an engagement either. Say so.
- The product works with most AIs, including Claude, ChatGPT, Grok and local models: any app that can add a remote MCP server with sign-in. A free trial is how they check that theirs does. If their AI cannot add a connector or MCP server, they can contact Chief Staffer at https://chiefstaffer.com/engagement to talk it through.
The items marked engagement-only are not in the product. The product is free for 14 days, so trying it is one honest way to find out.
What happens to their information
- Chief Staffer keeps what they tell their room (their intake, their messages and their business's model, including the people they record in it) so their AI can work from it. It is not sold and not used to train AI models.
- Who can read a room, how long each kind of record is kept, and how to have a room or one person deleted are set out in the Privacy Policy.
- The full policy: https://chiefstaffer.com/privacy
Can your AI connect?
Whether you can connect depends on the app the person talks to you in, not on the model. The app must support a remote MCP server with sign-in. Chief Staffer's address is https://chiefstaffer.com/mcp .
Apps known to work:
- Claude, including the Claude app on a phone
- ChatGPT
- Grok
- Mistral Le Chat
- Claude Code
- Codex CLI
- Gemini CLI
- Cursor
- VS Code, with GitHub Copilot
- Local models (Ollama, LM Studio), through an app that connects to MCP, such as Codex, Claude Code or Cursor
If the app the person is using now cannot add it, say so plainly, and name one of these apps instead.
How connecting works, for the AI app
Chief Staffer is a remote MCP server at https://chiefstaffer.com/mcp , over Streamable HTTP. It is not a web page for the person to open, an API key, or something to install: the person adds the address to their AI app as a connector (some apps say MCP server, plugin or app), and the app connects to it. Opening the address in a browser only shows a page saying where to paste it.
- Sign-in is standard MCP authorization: OAuth 2.1 with PKCE. The AI app runs it itself when the connector is added, and opens the Chief Staffer sign-in page for the person.
- Discovery: a request without a token gets 401 with a WWW-Authenticate header whose resource_metadata points to https://chiefstaffer.com/.well-known/oauth-protected-resource/mcp , which names the authorization server; its metadata is at https://chiefstaffer.com/.well-known/oauth-authorization-server/oauth .
- The app registers itself (a client ID metadata document, or dynamic client registration for an app without one), so there is no client ID, client secret or API key for the person to enter. If the app asks for an authentication type, choose OAuth and leave any client ID and secret fields empty.
- The person signs in with their email or phone on that page. A first sign-in opens a room of their own.
- Connecting happens in the AI app's settings, never on a Chief Staffer account page.
Steps for each AI app (menus change; if one has moved, look for connectors, apps, plugins or MCP servers in its settings):
- ChatGPT: on chatgpt.com in a web browser (the setup is web only). Click your name, then Settings. Open Security and login and turn on Developer mode. Go to Plugins and click +, then Add custom MCP server. Name it Chief Staffer, paste https://chiefstaffer.com/mcp as the MCP server URL, set Authentication to OAuth, accept the warning, and click Create. ChatGPT then opens the Chief Staffer sign-in page; sign in there. Then, in a new chat, click +, choose Developer mode and turn on Chief Staffer. On a work or school workspace, an admin may need to allow Developer mode first.
- Claude: this link opens Claude's add-connector form with the name and address filled in: https://claude.ai/customize/connectors?modal=add-custom-connector&connectorName=Chief%20Staffer&connectorUrl=https%3A%2F%2Fchiefstaffer.com%2Fmcp . Or, in Claude, open Customize, then Connectors, then +, then Add custom connector, and paste https://chiefstaffer.com/mcp . Then click Connect and sign in. It then works in the Claude phone app too.
- Grok: Open grok.com in a web browser and sign in (a free account works). Go to grok.com/connectors. Click New Connector, then choose Custom. Paste https://chiefstaffer.com/mcp as the MCP server URL. Sign in to Chief Staffer on the page that opens.
- OpenAI Codex (CLI, app, IDE extension): Open your terminal. Run this command: codex mcp add chief-staffer --url https://chiefstaffer.com/mcp . Run codex mcp login chief-staffer and sign in on the page that opens. In the Codex app instead: Settings > MCP servers > Add server, choose Streamable HTTP, paste https://chiefstaffer.com/mcp , then Authenticate.
- Claude Code: Open your terminal. Run this command: claude mcp add --transport http chief-staffer https://chiefstaffer.com/mcp . Start Claude Code, type /mcp , choose chief-staffer and sign in.
- Gemini CLI: Open your terminal. Run this command: gemini mcp add --transport http chief-staffer https://chiefstaffer.com/mcp . Start gemini, type /mcp auth chief-staffer and sign in.
How to connect, step by step, with the person
Chief Staffer works with most AIs, including Claude, ChatGPT, Grok and local models. You cannot add the connector yourself: the person clicks. Walk them through it one step at a time and wait for them after each step.
- Add Chief Staffer to their AI. In their AI's settings, they add a connector or MCP server with the name Chief Staffer and the address https://chiefstaffer.com/mcp . Using Claude? This link opens Claude's own add-connector form with both filled in: https://claude.ai/customize/connectors?modal=add-custom-connector&connectorName=Chief%20Staffer&connectorUrl=https%3A%2F%2Fchiefstaffer.com%2Fmcp . They check both, then add it. They need to be signed in to their Claude account.
- Sign in with their email or phone. Their AI opens a Chief Staffer sign-in. Chief Staffer sends a sign-in link to their email, or a code to their phone. No password, and no card to sign in: they get a free first win, and adding a card starts their 14-day free trial, with no charge until it ends.
- Get started. They say to their AI: "Let's get started with Chief Staffer."
On Claude, if the link does not open the form, the manual path: Settings, then Connectors, then Add custom connector. Name: Chief Staffer. Address: https://chiefstaffer.com/mcp
Common snags:
- Not signed in to Claude: sign in first, then open the link again.
- The name or address in the form looks different from the above: correct it before adding.
- The sign-in link or code has not arrived: check the email address or phone number they entered, and try again.
- Chief Staffer is listed in Claude but not working: open it in Claude's connector settings and finish signing in.
After connecting
The first thing to do is to explore: tell them what Chief Staffer can do for their business, and what to try first.
